Golden Gate Drift: Round 2

We're back to Stockton 99 for Round 2 of Golden Gate Drift! Jose was able to repair his transmission and came to this round ready to rock. This round didn't have the extra practice day like Round 1, so Jose needed to learn the new course layout fast.

However, Stockton 99 is Jose's best track. He has been driving here since the first introduction of Stockton99 Drift and was able to win the 2011 Series. Even tandem practice was no problem for him. Adjustments were made and he was ready for his qualifying run.

Jose was able to put down two smooth qualifying runs and scored a 78 placing him in fourth. Only three points from a third position qualifying run.

Friend of the team, Faruk Kugay was able to secure a second place run in his 1JZGTE-powered S14.

We took a quick break and prepared for Top 16 battles. This is was the first competition battle Jose participated in since Winter Jam in December 2013. It's good to see that his car is still competitive.

Jose lined up on the grid preparing for his first Top 16 battle against Elijah Wright. Jose stayed consistent throughout the battle and advanced to Top 8. This victory put Jose against Joe Tardiff and his LS-powered S13.

The battle was tough. The power difference was a challenge, but not a dealbreaker for Jose. A slight mistake on initiation during the follow run allowing Tardiff to take the lead.

Meanwhile, Faruk was making his way through the brackets. The final battle between Faruk and Crick Filipi was one of the most exciting battles to watch all day. Faruk even took a bite out of Crick's rear bumper.

Faruk Kugay went to win the battle and the round.

Congratulations to Faruk for the win!

More photos here. Thank you to Golden Gate Drift for holding a great event. We will be back Round 3!
